China also suspended stricter inspections of end users and end-use destinations for dual-use graphite exports to the US.
In December 2024, China announced a ban on exports of the material to the United States in response to high import tariffs imposed by the Donald Trump administration.
Last week, China also announced the suspension of export controls on other materials including expanded restrictions on rare earth materials and lithium battery materials. This suspension took effect on October 9.
The suspension came after Chinese President Xi Jinping and United States President Donald Trump met on the sidelines of the APEC summit in South Korea at the end of October.
During the meeting, Xi and Trump agreed on cutting tariffs, continuing purchases of US soybeans, limiting trade in fentanyl, and rare earths issues.
“It was a wonderful meeting,” Trump was quoted as saying
Reuters.
Trump said import tariffs on China would be reduced, from 57 percent to 47 percent, and 10 percent for trade in fentanyl precursor drugs.
Xi, he said, would work hard to stop the flow of fentanyl, which often triggers overdose deaths in the United States.
