China asks its citizens to avoid traveling to Japan. In a post on social media, the Chinese Embassy in Japan warned its citizens not to travel to the neighboring country, which is one of its favorite destinations.
“Recently, the Japanese leader has openly made provocative statements regarding Taiwan, damaging the climate of people-to-people relations between the two countries,” read a statement from the Chinese Embassy in Japan as quoted by The Guardian.
The travel ban occurred after China was angry with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s statement. The woman had said that an armed attack on Taiwan could be the basis for Japan to deploy troops as part of the concept of collective defense.
China did not accept this statement and asked the Japanese PM to withdraw his comments. However, Takaichi was reluctant to do so and said his words were in accordance with principles.
In the midst of the dispute, Chinese Consul General in Osaka Xue Jian threatened to behead Takaich on social media. This time, it was Japan who was furious. They consider it inappropriate for diplomats to post such statements.
