, admitted that he was ready to help the government to fulfill President Prabowo Subianto’s ambition to build industry
national car
domestically.
According to Budi Darmawan, Marketing Director of Chery Sales Indonesia (CSI), his party will provide support in any form if requested by the government.
“We basically support it, of course. As automotive players, we will support whatever the government needs,” said Budi when met in Bogor, West Java, Saturday (8/11).

Not only Chery, other brands have also expressed interest in participating in the national car development project being initiated by the Government.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said Hyundai was interested in developing a national car with a Domestic Component Level or TKDN reaching 80 percent.
Airlangga said this was a proposal submitted directly by Hyundai after his meeting with the President of Hyundai Motor Group Amb.Sung Kim, in Gyeongju, South Korea, (30/10).
“They have a proposal for a national car whose TKDN is above 80 percent. But now it is still in model form,” said Airlangga, quoting CNBC Indonesia, Wednesday (5/11).
Prabowo previously expressed the desire to build a national car in October 2025. At that time he conveyed his mission to build a car made in Indonesia within the next three years.
On the other hand, two government-affiliated companies, namely Indonesian Military Technology (TMI) and Pindad, are suspected of having received the mandate to make national cars.Each has its own task to revive the national automotive industry.
It is reported that the two companies are developing national cars with different characteristics, but both are designed to meet domestic needs.
Pindad itself is known as a military-based company that often produces weapons and tactical vehicles.One of the models that Pindad has converted into a passenger car is the Maung.
Meanwhile, TMI is a new company managed by the Ministry of Defense.TMI showcased the electric SUV concept in the form of a clay prototype at the GIIAS 1025 event in July.
The SUV, called i2C or Indigenous Indonesian Car, which translates as ‘original Indonesian car’, is targeted to enter the mass production stage no later than 2028. The hope is that this car can be released to the market at a price of under IDR 500 million.
