Flash flood
hit Central Tapanuli Regency (Tapteng), North Sumatra on Tuesday (25/11) after heavy rain for the last two days.
Water mixed with mud and wooden materials reportedly reached the roofs of residents’ houses.
Video footage circulating shows residents trying to save themselves in the middle of the fast current while helping each other get out of the water.

A number of large logs were seen being carried away by the current, damaging residents’ houses.
Head of Emergency Management, Equipment and Logistics of North Sumatra BPBD, Sri Wahyuni ​​Pancasilawati, explained that flash floods occurred in Hutanabolon Village, Tukka District, Central Tapanuli.
“Dozens of residents’ houses in Tukka District were affected by flash floods. The water level reached the roofs of residents’ houses,” he said.
According to Sri Wahyuni, flooding has been going on since Sunday (23/11) due to heavy rain that has not subsided.
Conditions then worsened today when flash floods suddenly hit residential areas.Water discharge continues to increase.
“Traffic flow has been completely paralyzed, electricity has been cut off, high-intensity rainy weather is still ongoing today,” he said.
Sri Wahyuni said that from temporary data the seven sub-districts most affected by the flood included Pandan, Sarudik, Badiri, Kolang, Tukka, Lumut and Pinangsori sub-districts.
“The affected residents include 150 families in Pandan District, 338 families in Sarudik District, 65 families in Barus District, 1,261 families in Kolang District, 10 families in Tukka District and 78 families in Lumut District,” he explained.
Currently, said Sri Wahyuni, BPBD together with related officials are still collecting impact data and ensuring the condition of residents at the disaster location.
“BPBD Central Tapanuli Regency together with the Social Service provided basic food assistance to residents affected by the flood. Officers are still collecting data in the field,” he said.
