A car explodes near the Red Fort, New Delhi,

Police have started an investigation into the cause of the explosion.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said a vehicle was “moving slowly” and “stopped” near a red light at around 6.42 pm local time.
“An explosion occurred in the vehicle. Passengers in the vehicle and people in nearby vehicles were affected,” Golcha said.
At least six vehicles and three autorickshaws caught fire.The police immediately checked CCTV surveillance cameras around the location.
“We are investigating the blast from every angle. The situation is being monitored regularly,” he said.
Airports, railway stations, government buildings, cultural heritage sites and other important areas are on high alert across India following the blast, according to the Central Industrial Security Force.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the families of those killed.Modi said affected residents will get help.

The Red Fort is one of the most famous historical buildings in India.The fort is known as Lal Qila.
The Red Fort was built under the rule of the Mughals in the 17th century located in the old city and is visited by tourists throughout the year.
