“I also want (tax revenue to reach the target). If we can, we’ll beat them up, especially DPR members, we’ll increase their taxes. Wow, I’ll be beaten up later,” joked Purbaya when pitching the idea of increasing taxes for DPR RI members.
He then displayed data on the growth of money circulating in society, which he claimed had been sluggish since 2024.
Therefore, Purbaya emphasized that he did not want to put more pressure on the financial conditions of the community and entrepreneurs.
On the other hand, the State Treasurer explained that the government was still providing stimulus to the Indonesian people.
This condition, according to Purbaya, makes normal references and assessments of tax revenue performance in a healthy condition inappropriate.

He joked that this was because his two deputies, namely Deputy Minister of Finance Suahasil Nazara and Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono, were stingy.
