Cambodia withdrew from participation in
SEA Games 2025
for security reasons amidst escalating border conflicts.
The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) withdrew all athletes from the 2025 SEA Games on Wednesday (10/12) morning.
In a statement addressed to the CEO of the SEA Games Federation, Chaiyapak Siriwat, NOCC expressed concern over the current security situation.

“I regret to inform you that due to serious concerns and requests from the athletes’ families for their relatives to return home immediately, NOCC must withdraw our entire delegation and arrange their return to Cambodia immediately for security reasons,” wrote a statement from NOCC Secretary General HE Vath Chamroeun as reported by Channel News Asia.
“This was a decision not taken lightly. We apologize for any inconvenience this return may cause and remain grateful for your understanding and support.”
Two weeks ago, Cambodia canceled the participation of its athletes in several sports.Security reasons were the background for the Land of a Thousand Pagodas’ decision in making the decision.
Cambodia’s NOC previously stated that it would withdraw from the sports of judo, karate, pencak silat, wrestling, wushu, pentaque, football and sepak takraw.
The Cambodian contingent on Tuesday (9/12) evening was still taking part in the opening ceremony of the 2025 SEA Games.
Thailand launched air strikes on Cambodia on Monday (8/12).Thailand and Cambodia blame each other for renewed attacks in the disputed region.It is known that there were 10 deaths on Tuesday (9/12) and more than 140 thousand civilians were displaced.
