China’s special envoy for Asian Affairs was immediately sent to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, this week to try to end the war between Cambodia and Thailand which has broken out again.
Previously, United States President Donald Trump, facilitated by Malaysia, succeeded in seeking Cambodia-Thailand peace in July.However, war broke out again in early December.
China has now sent a special envoy, Deng Xijun, as the US and China renew efforts to get Cambodia and Thailand to immediately agree to a ceasefire, ahead of a special meeting of ASEAN countries on Monday (22/12).
Deng’s visit to Phnom Penh was announced directly by the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday (20/12).
“Deng Xijun reiterated that China will continue to play a constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Cambodia and Thailand with the aim of promoting the peaceful resolution of disputes,” the Cambodian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, quoted from

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Friday (19/12) said Washington was optimistic that Thailand and Cambodia could return to compliance with the ceasefire early next week.
The war between Cambodia and Thailand which has broken out again on the border has killed 60 people and 500 thousand residents from both countries have fled to safer places.
