said the implementation of regional head elections (
regional elections
) is immediately unproductive and effective.
Cak Imin admitted that his party would evaluate the implementation of direct regional elections which have been running since 2005.
Cak Imin made this statement while attending the opening of the East Java PKB Regional Conference (Muswil) in Surabaya, Friday (19/12).

The agenda was attended by PKB administrators from all districts and cities in East Java, a number of regional heads, as well as East Java PWNU structural administrators, including East Java PWNU Chairman Abdul Hakim Mahfudz or Gus Kikin.
“Direct regional elections are not productive and many democratic systems are ineffective, we will evaluate them,” said Cak Imin.
He emphasized that this evaluation was important to carry out as part of efforts to improve the democratic system in Indonesia.According to him, this discourse is not only PKB’s view, but also a common awareness among other political parties.
“Yes, thank God, all parties are aware that there are many general election systems, in unproductive general election packages, direct regional elections are not productive,” he said.
Apart from highlighting the electoral system, Cak Imin also gave a message to PKB cadres to work harder in facing future political contestation.
He asked all party levels to strengthen their support base again by being closer to the people.
“Approach the people, help the people, solve people’s problems, make policies that side with the people. Invite all parties to collaborate, we cannot possibly go it alone without collaboration,” he said.
Cak Imin also emphasized the importance of collaboration in carrying out political and development agendas.He asked PKB cadres to focus on efforts to eradicate poverty and preserve the environment.
“Good intentions are not enough, good intentions must be followed by an invitation to work together to overcome problems. Environment, poverty, especially poverty. I ask East Java, PKB to move to focus on poverty and the environment,” he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto said he was considering Golkar General Chair Bahlil Lahadalia’s idea regarding regional head elections (pilkada) being carried out by the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD).
This proposal emerged in response to the high political costs in Indonesia due to implementing direct elections.Prabowo then highlighted that this kind of ‘representative democracy’ practice is also implemented in a number of countries.
“If you have already chosen the Regency DPRD, Provincial DPRD, why not just immediately elect the governor and regent? That’s it,” said Prabowo when delivering a speech at the peak event of the Golkar Party’s 61st anniversary at Istora Senayan, Friday (5/12).
