Jonatan Christie suffered three consecutive defeats after losing to French men’s singles Christo Popov in the 2025 BWF World Tour Finals, Friday (19/12).
Competing at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Jonathan Christie was forced to win 21-18, 16-21 and 13-21 by Popov.
In the first game, Jojo, Jonathan’s nickname, was behind 11-14 but managed to turn things around and close out the win with a score of 21-18.

In the second game, it was Popov’s turn to make a comeback.Jonathan was overwhelmed and had to give up 16-21.
The victory in the second game made Popov appear confident in the deciding game.Popov even had a five-point lead when he led the match with a score of 8-3.
Jojo turned things around in the middle of the second game by leading the match 11-10.However, Popov was able to equalize the score and even raced away from Jojo with a score of 21-13.
This was Jojo’s last match in Group A. Jojo’s previous two matches also lost to Kunlavut Vitidsarn (Thailand) and Anders Antonsen (Denmark).
As a result, Jonathan is certain to finish as caretaker without winning in Group A. The 2024 All England champion is also certain to be eliminated early from the 2025 BWF World Tour Finals.
