“We often hear about preventing bullying from a normative perspective, but how to make it a shared responsibility. Don’t work alone, of course you invite family, parents, government, institutions and society of course,” said Veronica in her official statement.
He also highlighted the urgent need to increase digital literacy for children and parents, by strengthening supervision of information circulating on social media.
Regarding this, he invited the media to also ensure that the public narrative about children always sided with the best interests of children and did not worsen their psychological conditions.
“If possible, a public communication guideline with a child protection perspective can be created that will become a common reference for the government, teachers, society, and even the media that conveys information related to children,” he said.
Apart from that, Veronica also emphasized that a child-friendly school culture must be the main foundation for preventing violence and bullying.
“Our education sector encourages the implementation of Child-Friendly Education Units as the foundation for the formation of a safe, caring, inclusive and violence-free school culture,” he stressed.
On the same occasion, the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) said that they would continue to monitor news that had the potential to reveal the identity of Children in Conflict with the Law (ABH).
The Chairperson of KPAI, Margaret Aliyatul Maimunah, emphasized that maintaining the confidentiality of children’s identities is a mandate of the law and the collective responsibility of all parties.
“Of course we also have to help them so that they don’t get further justification, then lose their identity because of the amount of news that actually leads to negative things.”
“Of course this requires support from all of us, and if we refer to the Child Protection Law, in fact the obligation to protect them and ensure that their related rights are fulfilled is also an obligation for all of us,” said Margaret.
