“Our coalition met, we discussed the current situation, the challenges we face and the decisions we must take responsibly,” Zhelyazkov said in a televised announcement.
“Our desire is to be at the level that society expects. Power comes from the votes of the people,” he added, as reported by

On Wednesday (10/12) evening local time, thousands of Bulgarians held demonstrations in the capital Sofia and dozens of other cities. They expressed their frustration with the government, which was seen as failing to eradicate increasingly rampant corruption.
Last week, Zhelyazkov’s government withdrew its 2026 budget plan, after public protests.Opposition parties and other organizations say they reject the government’s plans to raise social security contributions and taxes on dividends, to finance increasingly expensive state spending.
Previously, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev also called on Zhelyazkov’s government to resign earlier this week.
“Between the voice of the people and the fear of the mafia. Listen to the voice of the people!”Radev said.
Radev, who has limited powers under Bulgaria’s constitution, will now ask the parties in parliament to form a new government. He will also form an interim government to run the country, until elections can be held.
