Ferdinand Marcos Jr or Bongbong arrested seven suspects for corruption in the flood control project.
He conveyed the news of the arrest via his social media on Monday (24/11).

“I inform you that some of those for whom arrest warrants were issued are currently in the custody of the authorities,” Bongbong said, as quoted by the official news agency.

Bongbong said six of the seven suspects surrendered themselves voluntarily to authorities.Only one person was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Two other suspects have now also announced that they will surrender themselves to the Philippine National Police.
In all, seven of the 16 suspects are currently in custody.Two suspects are still in the process of surrendering, and seven other suspects are still at large, including a member of parliament and former Bongbong ally, Zaldy Co.
Those detained include Regional Director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region IVB Gerald Pacanan, former Assistant Regional Director of DPWH Region IVB Gene Ryan Alurin Altea, Assistant Regional Director of Region IVB Ruben Delos Santos Jr, Head of the Construction Division of DPWH Region IVB Dominic Gregorio Serrano, project engineer III DPWH Region IVB Felisardo Sevare Casuno, and Head of the Maintenance Division of DPWH Region IVB Juliet CabunganCalvo.
Bongbong warned that suspects who have not yet surrendered should surrender now rather than be arrested by the authorities.He also reminded Filipinos not to help hide the suspects because they would face legal proceedings.
“To all the remaining defendants, my advice: surrender now. Don’t wait for the authorities to hunt you down,” Bongbong said.
All the arrested suspects will be in NBI custody pending court orders.There will be no special treatment for suspects.
This is the first wave of arrests of suspects for alleged corruption in flood control projects in the Philippines.
This case was discovered after severe flooding submerged several areas of the country for weeks.In fact, the government has started a flood control project since 2022.
Bongbong was the first to reveal the anomaly of the flood control project in his fourth state address.After the inspection, Bongbong said that a number of well-known contractors had ‘played’ in this public project.
Bongbong then formed an independent body tasked with investigating corruption cases in flood control projects.He vowed to put all those involved in prison by the end of this year.
