An explosion occurred in the capital Moscow,
Russia
, ahead of the 2025 Christmas celebrations on Wednesday (24/12) early morning, causing two police officers to die in the incident.
Russia’s Investigative Committee said the two officers died while trying to approach a suspicious-looking man.

“An explosive device was activated [when officers approached the suspect who was near their official vehicle],” the committee statement was quoted as saying

According to eyewitnesses interviewed by Russian media, the explosion occurred at around 01.30 in the morning.
The explosion occurred near the location where Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov died on Monday (22/12) after his car exploded.Russia believes Monday’s incident was linked to an operation by “Ukrainian special forces”.
The authorities are currently conducting an investigation into this incident.The location of the incident is now closed and crowded with police forces.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow has blamed Kyiv for attacks targeting Russian military officials and pro-Kremlin figures.
Ukraine has claimed responsibility for some of the attacks.
