“Cleaning up of affected areas continues, including in Aceh Tamiang, by deploying maximum personnel and equipment,” said Abdul at a press conference in Jakarta, Tuesday (23/12).
Abdul emphasized that the work intensity of officers in the field was very high at a number of points affected by the disaster.
“At several points, TNI and Polri personnel worked up to 18-20 hours per day to speed up recovery and revive community economic activity,” he said.
Apart from Aceh Tamiang, BNPB also continues to strengthen recovery support in areas with a high number of refugees, such as in North Aceh, East Aceh, Central Aceh and Bener Meriah.
The number of refugee tents was increased and the clean-up of disaster-affected infrastructure was accelerated.
Abdul explained that restoring land access in Aceh was one of the main focuses.A number of bridges on the route connecting Bireuen-Bener Meriah have returned to functionality, while several areas in Central Aceh and Bener Meriah still face limited access for four-wheeled vehicles.
“Several sections of the road can be passed by two-wheeled vehicles, but it is not yet optimal. The government will continue to make efforts so that before the end of December these routes can be passed by four-wheeled vehicles,” said Abdul.
Acceleration efforts are also being made through the construction of an alternative western route from Nagan Raya to Central Aceh, with the progress of the Kureng Betong Bridge construction having reached around 70 percent.
“If it can be completed by the end of this week, then access to Central Aceh from the eastern route will be open,” he said.
BNPB emphasized that opening road access in stages is the key so that the flow of people, goods, heavy equipment and logistics can run smoothly again, so that recovery at the beginning of the year can take place more quickly and significantly in all affected areas.
