Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that conditions in the field, such as land that is still moving, unpredictable weather, and the depth and breadth of material piles, pose a high safety risk for officers and the public.
“These considerations are the basis that SAR operations cannot continue without sacrificing the safety of more parties,” said Abdul in a written statement, Tuesday (25/11).

BNPB said that this decision was a tough choice for all parties, especially the families of the victims who were still waiting for news from their loved ones.
However, BNPB is considering various things.During the ten day search, officers faced complex challenges.
Abdul said that bodies buried in wet materials and minimal air circulation experienced natural damage. This complicates the identification process and increases health risks for officers.
“However, all personnel from BNPB, Basarnas, TNI-Polri, PMI, Tagana, BPBD across regions, local governments, volunteers, heavy equipment support, and weather modification operations have worked optimally with strict safety standards,” he said.
On the last day of the operation, the joint team managed to find five additional bodies which were immediately taken to the Banjarnegara Regional Hospital for the identification process.
This finding brings the total death toll to 17 people, including two human body parts.A total of 11 other victims were not found even though all search methods had been applied.
After the search for Banjarnegara landslide victims was stopped, BNPB focused on recovery. This started with the provision of 50 temporary shelters (huntara) in the initial stage, which was then continued with the construction of permanent shelters (huntap) in medium term planning.
BNPB also supports the restoration of public services, including teaching and learning activities and community economic activities, as well as ongoing psychosocial assistance, especially for families who have lost family members and residents who have experienced trauma.
Abdul expressed his highest appreciation to all officers who took part in this operation. He also conveyed prayers for the victims of the disaster.
“May the victims find the best place by His side. May the families left behind be given fortitude, and may the people of Banjarnegara be able to rise again with greater strength,” he said.
