Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (
BMKG
) warns of the potential for extreme weather in the form of
rain
accompanied by lightning in a number of regions in Indonesia on Sunday (14/12).
BMKG forecaster Wahyu Annisa said that in the western part of Indonesia, people need to be aware of the potential for thunderstorms in a number of cities.
“In the western region of Indonesia there is the potential for thunderstorms in Pekanbaru, Jambi, Pangkalpinang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Palangkaraya and Banjarmasin,” he said in a weather forecast broadcast in Jakarta, Sunday.

Apart from that, Annisa explained that moderate intensity rain could potentially occur in Padang.
Meanwhile, light rain is predicted to fall in Medan, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Pontianak, Tanjung Selor and Samarinda.
Thick cloudy weather conditions are predicted to cover Banda Aceh and Surabaya.
Meanwhile, for the eastern part of Indonesia, Annisa said that the potential for thunderstorms needs to be watched out for in Mamuju.
“The potential for moderate intensity rain is also predicted to occur in Nabire, Merauke and Denpasar,” he said.
Annisa added that light rain could potentially occur in Mataram, Palu, Manado, Gorontalo, Kendari, Makassar, Ternate, Ambon, Sorong and Jayawijaya.
BMKG also predicts thick cloudy weather in Kupang and Manokwari.Meanwhile, cloudy weather conditions are predicted to occur in Jayapura.
BMKG urges the public to remain alert to the potential for extreme weather, especially rain accompanied by lightning, which can have an impact on daily activities and safety.
