Fathani said that even though it was only a cyclone seed, it had the potential to become a tropical cyclone. This condition causes high rainfall, high waves and hydrometeorological disasters.
“These are areas that are prone to cyclone seeds that can develop into tropical cyclones. Of course there will be the threat of high rainfall, hydrometeorological disasters and also high waves,” he said.
According to him, society must start preparing.Especially if a tropical cyclone with a high category occurs in an area with a dense population.
“We also need to be prepared if a tropical cyclone with a higher, stronger category occurs in areas or provinces that are densely populated. We need to prepare for this from now on,” he said.
Previously, Fathani said that the rain that fell on Sumatra, causing floods and landslides, was an anomaly.According to him, Sumatra gets a month of rain in one day.
BMKG initially explained that northern Sumatra was affected by the Tropical Cyclone Senyar phenomenon.BMKG had predicted this about eight days earlier and had given a warning to the local government.
“We could predict Tropical Cyclone Senyar about eight days before the cyclone formation process. So in the Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra areas, the Head of Hall 1, BMKG Region 1 Center had issued a warning eight days before, repeated again four days before, then two days before,” said Fathani in a coordination meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs office, Central Jakarta, Monday.
He asked regional heads to respond immediately to increase awareness. This information can also be provided directly to the public.
“So there are also several regional heads who capture this information and convey it directly to their staff at the regional level,” he explained.
