National Nutrition Agency (
BGN
) open your voice regarding status
nutritionist
in the Free Nutritious Meals program (
MBG
) after the viral statement by Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal.
Cucun said MBG does not need a nutritionist, but a nutrition supervisor. The background of nutrition supervisors can be high school graduates who have been given three months of training.
Head of BGN Dadan Hindayana emphasized that the profession that is the main pillar of the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) or MBG kitchen must have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. However, currently the number of nutrition graduates is not yet able to meet the need for MBG program nutritionists.

“The first priority in the initial stage is nutrition graduates, but we know that the production of nutrition graduates is limited, while this program continues to run. So, when there is a shortage of nutrition graduates, BGN must find a way out,” said Dadan, Monday (17/11) as quoted
Between.
To overcome this, Dadan said that BGN is now looking for graduates whose fields are correlated with nutritional knowledge to fill the vacancies of nutritionists.
“This program is designed without setting a national standard menu. Therefore, in every SPPG, there must be someone who understands nutrition. If you don’t have a nutrition degree, for example a public health graduate, there must be nutrition lessons in it. Food technology, there is nutrition knowledge in it,” he added.
Cucun’s statement at the SPPG Consolidation Forum throughout Bandung Regency, West Java regarding plans to replace the term nutritionist was widely criticized. He made this statement in response to questions and suggestions from forum participants.
“If in the end you still want to recruit from non-nutrition people, please don’t use the label nutritionist anymore,” said the participant.
However, in the middle of explaining the context of the question, Cucun hurriedly interrupted the participant’s explanation.
“You (spoke) too long. The others feel sorry for you,” said Cucun.
“I don’t like arrogant young people like this. Just because you are now needed by the state, you are talking about legislation. I am the policy maker, the person who handles nutrition. There is no need for a nutritionist. Is this suitable or not? I will finalize it later in the DPR,” he added.
After going viral and widely criticized, Cucun apologized and clarified his statement. He explained that the proposal to change the diction of ‘nutrition expert’ at SPPG to a ‘quality control’ team is currently still just a discourse.
“The proposed change from ‘nutrition expert’ to ‘quality control’ or ‘Nutritious Food Supervisor’ is still just a discourse and will not necessarily be implemented,” said Cucun via the Cucun Center Instagram account, Monday (17/11).
Cucun also held a meeting of the Indonesian Nutritionists Association (Persagi), at the parliament complex, Monday (17/11).In the meeting which was also attended by the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), the government and the DPR agreed to optimize the nutritionist profession for the MBG program.
“But earlier I conveyed my aspirations here with BGN, maximizing the profession of a nutritionist,” said Cucun.
However, according to him, the proposal to change the nomenclature or term for nutrition experts at SPPG originally came up at a meeting at Commission IX of the DPR.The proposal was submitted to find a solution to the shortage of nutritionists.
However, this proposal is considered risky because it could result in the MBG program being given to parties who do not have the competence.
“We will respond, we will take it, if it is like this, then it will be the profession that will be eliminated along with other professions,” he said.
