Being beaten by Vietnam means that the Malaysian national team in this age group does not have an agenda for next year’s Asian Cup.
In the 2026 calendar, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has two age group agendas, the 2026 U-17 Asian Cup and the U-23 Asian Cup, which will both be held in Saudi Arabia.
The 2026 U-23 Asian Cup will take place from 6 to 24 January 2026, while the 2026 U-17 Asian Cup will be held from 7 to 24 May.
Before failing to advance to the 2026 U-17 Asian Cup, Malaysia first failed to qualify for the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup. In the 2026 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification, last September, Malaysia only ranked third in Group F standings.
In qualifying, Malaysia, which had 3 points in three matches, lost to Thailand and Lebanon, which both had 7 points.
Meanwhile, the U-20 Asian Cup tournament is not included in the 2026 calendar because it only held its 42nd edition in China last February. It is possible that the U-20 Asian Cup will only be held again in 2027.
In the 2025 U-20 Asian Cup, Malaysia also did not participate because it was ranked fourth in the Group E qualifying round last year.
