Bandung Deputy Mayor’s Alleged Corruption Motive: Requesting Goods Procurement Project

Head of the Bandung City District Prosecutor’s Office, Irfan Wibowo, revealed the motive for the alleged corruption committed by two Bandung City officials, namely
Deputy Mayor of Bandung M Erwin
and Bandung City DPRD member Rendiana Awangga.
According to him, the two officials who have now been named as suspects are trying to direct a number of goods and services procurement project packages to officials in various Bandung City OPDs, then ensure that these projects go to parties who are related or affiliated with both of them.
This pattern is said to be carried out repeatedly and systematically.

Irfan emphasized that this action was not only a form of abuse of power, but also an attempt to secure benefits for certain parties unlawfully.
“The suspects asked OPD for a procurement work package, which was then implemented and benefited the affiliated party,” said Irfan, Wednesday (10/12).
For their actions, the two suspects were charged with the Corruption Article which is directly related to the motive for abuse of authority.

Not yet arrested
Head of the Special Crimes Section (Pidsus) of the Bandung City District Prosecutor’s Office, Ridha Nurul Ihsan, said that the two suspects had not been detained because they were still waiting for approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri).
“Until now, the two suspects have not been detained, because they have to get approval from the Minister of Home Affairs,” said Ridha.
Meanwhile regarding the ban, the Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that this step would be taken in order to maintain the smooth running of the legal process.
“Regarding the ban process, of course we will definitely carry out a ban during the investigation process,” said Ridha.
Ridha also responded to questions regarding the number of projects allegedly conditioned by the suspects.He said he could not reveal details of the amount or value of the project because it had entered the realm of investigative material.
“What we can say is that the requested projects are in several SKPDs of the Bandung City Government,” he said.
75 people were examined
The Bandung City Prosecutor’s Office stated that the investigation process is still ongoing and it is possible that other parties may also be involved in this case.
During the investigation process, the Bandung City Prosecutor’s Office examined 75 witnesses and collected various pieces of evidence.
Ridha emphasized that investigators had not stopped developing the case.If two new pieces of evidence are found, it is possible that other parties will also be held responsible.
“If in the future two pieces of evidence are found, it does not rule out the possibility that other parties were involved,” he said.
Ridha also said that he did not rule out the possibility of asking the Mayor of Bandung, M Farhan, for information if necessary.
“Until now, investigators do not see any urgency in asking the Mayor for information based on the existing evidence. However, if in the future the evidence leads, anyone will definitely be asked for information,” he said.
