Avatar: Fire and Ash
debuted with US$88 million at the North American box office.That’s off to a pretty good start, although lower than its predecessor.
The opening weekend revenue for Avatar: The Way of Water in December 2022 reached US$134 million, a quite significant difference for James Cameron’s third Avatar film.

The Avatar films have long been known not for their fantastic opening weekend earnings, but for their unrivaled box office staying power.
The epic film Avatar (2009) debuted with US$77 million domestically and remained in first place for seven consecutive weekends, ultimately reaching US$760 million in North America and US$2.92 billion worldwide.
Not to be outdone, the sequel also managed to maintain its No. 1 position.1 seven weekends and ultimately earned US$688 million domestically and US$2.3 billion globally.

Avatar: Fire and Ash debuted as projected at the international box office with US$257 million, bringing its global total to US$345 million.
It was one of the biggest worldwide debuts of the year, but lagged well behind the second film’s US$435 million global debut.
Premium screens, including IMAX and 3D, accounted for 66 PERCENT of ticket sales.Meanwhile, 38 percent of the audience on opening weekend was 25 and under, indicating that the franchise isn’t just appealing to adults.
Avatar: Fire and Ash dominated the North American box office charts, but wasn’t the only new film released there.
Surprisingly, Angel Studios’ animated Bible-themed musical David emerged ahead of two other newcomers, the psychological thriller The Housemaid, and The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
David, a kid-friendly film based on the story of David and Goliath, and a sequel to the TV miniseries Young David, managed to collect US$22 million from 3,118 screens, enough for second place.
The Housemaid debuted strongly in third place with US$19 million from 3,015 theaters.
Meanwhile, SpongeBobĀ is in fourth place with revenues of US$16 million from production costs of US$64 million.Early ticket sales were much lower than the previous two SpongeBob films.
The first film, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004) debuted with US$32 million, while the second film, The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015), opened with US$55 million.
Luckily, moviegoers seem to love Search for SquarePants, which earned an A- on CinemaScore, the highest grade in the series.
Zootopia 2 rounded out the top five films with revenues of US$14.5 million in its fourth weekend.
The animated sequel has earned US$282 million at the North American box office and global earnings of US$1.27 billion to date, cementing its position as the highest-grossing Hollywood film of the year.
