An Indonesian worker who works as a Household Assistant (ART), Fita, recounts the tense moments of the burning of an apartment complex in
Hong Kong
which killed 128 people.
Fita is one of hundreds of Indonesian household workers who lived in an apartment complex in Hong Kong that caught fire on Wednesday (26/11).
When the fire broke out, amidst loud sirens and flying debris, Fita admitted that she had tried to notify her superiors.However, Fita’s employer did not believe it.

After leaving the apartment and seeing two burning buildings in the Wang Fuk Court complex, Fita again urged her employer to leave the apartment.
“I immediately spoke to my employer, I said: ‘You have to come down now’. It felt scary. I almost cried because I saw so many people confused,” said Fita, quoted by Reuters.
Fita and her employer finally managed to get out of the apartment and were safe.The 49-year-old woman then lived in an emergency house.
After successfully saving herself, Fita is now praying for those who are still missing and trying to track down her friends who are still missing.
The Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong reported that there were around 140 Indonesian citizens (WNI) living and working in the Wang Fuk Court apartment complex, Tai Po, which burned heavily on Wednesday (26/11).
In a statement, Saturday (29/11), the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong said that based on employment data and field verification, the 140 Indonesian citizens living in the apartment complex were Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in the domestic sector who lived and worked in the settlement.
As of Saturday morning, the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong stated that the total number of Indonesian citizens who died due to the apartment fire incident reached seven.
“Based on the results of coordination with the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF), to date, a total of 7 (seven) Indonesian citizens (WNI) have died,” said the statement from the Indonesian Consulate General in Hong Kong, Saturday (29/11).
