The Running Man (1987) is a dystopian action film starring Schwarzenegger set in the United States between 2017 and 2019.
The film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel features a television show in which convicted criminal “runners” must escape death at the hands of professional killers.
“The only film of my films that I have always wanted to remake is The Running Man,” Schwarzenegger said as reported
The New York Post
on Saturday (8/11).
“So now, this film really steps up and does that perfectly. The action in the film is amazing and very creative,” said Schwarzenegger.
Now in the 2025 version, the character Ben Richards is played by Glen Powell. This film still has the same plot, namely that the runner is in a series of deadly events and will win the main prize of US$1 billion if he can survive for 30 days.
However, in 1987 it was said that Schwarzenegger’s version of Ben Richards was forced to take part in the event because of accusations of genocide, while Powell’s version of Ben Richards took part in the event to help his family.
For directors Edgar Wright and Glen Powell, Schwarzenegger’s support was everything.Powell even specifically contacted Schwarzenegger through his son, Patrick, to ensure this remake had the legend’s blessing.
“Arnold gave us his blessing,” Powell told People in April.”Patrick Schwarzenegger is a good friend of mine, and I asked Patrick so I could talk to Arnold.”
“I haven’t seen Arnold since we shot Expendables in Bulgaria,” Powell said.
