, died in Gaza while mediating a family dispute.
Yasser Abu Shahab is the leader of the Popular Forces (Gaza People’s Forces) armed group, which is based in Israeli-controlled Rafah in the southern Gaza region.

He leads the most prominent anti-Hamas group that emerged in Gaza during the Israeli aggression that began in 2023.

In a statement, the Gaza People’s Army claimed its leader died from a gunshot wound while mediating a family dispute.The group dismissed rumors that Abu Shahab died because he was killed by Hamas.
They also emphasized that they would continue in Abu Shahab’s footsteps and “fight terrorism” in Gaza.
Abu Shahab’s death was first reported by Israeli media, including public broadcaster Kan.Israeli Army Radio said Abu Shahab died at Soroka hospital in southern Israel, due to wounds.
The group led by Abu Shahab has been operating from the Gaza area controlled by Israeli troops, since Hamas and Israel reached a ceasefire mediated by the United States last October.
Last June, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that his party was arming anti-Hamas clans in Gaza, although he did not provide further details about this claim.
On November 18, the Abu Shahab group uploaded a video showing dozens of its militiamen receiving orders to launch an operation to “clear Rafah of terror”.The order allegedly refers to Hamas, which is believed to be hiding there.
