reveal distribution
basic ingredients
in North Sumatra (North Sumatra) and Aceh are still disturbed by
disaster
which has been happening since the end of November.
He said extreme weather conditions were the main factor that disrupted the supply of commodities such as chilies, onions and eggs, triggering significant price increases on the market.
“Distribution is indeed a bit disturbing to the usual prices in the new year, Christmas and New Year), because there are landslides, there are floods. This is the usual distribution, it’s a bit heavy,” said Amran in a press conference at the Ministry of Agriculture Office, South Jakarta, Thursday (11/12).

The man who also serves as the National Food Agency (Bapanas) explained that even though a number of commodities experienced increases, domestic rice prices remained stable and even recorded deflation over the last three months.National rice stocks as of Thursday (11/12) reached 3.7 million tons, the highest amount ever recorded by Indonesia.
“Rice is stable, safe. Our stock today is 3.7 million tons and that is the highest in the history of the Republic of Indonesia,” he said.
To anticipate increases in horticultural prices, Amran has instructed market operations in all affected areas.
According to him, chilies and shallots are currently affected the most because part of their production comes from areas where road access was cut off due to the disaster.
“There are vegetables (prices) going up, chilies (too). We ask our entire team to operate the market,” he added.
Amran emphasized that the government should not be complacent about stable rice prices. He ensured that stabilization steps would continue to be taken, including logistical support in areas where distribution routes were cut.
“We cannot be satisfied with the current (price) reduction. We have to operate the market,” he said.
A number of areas in North Sumatra and Aceh experienced a spike in prices of basic commodities after major floods and landslides cut off access from production centers to markets. In Medan, the price of red chilies has reached IDR 100 thousand per kilogram due to supply dropping by 50 percent.
Economic observer Gunawan Benjamin said that many large traders chose to stop operating because access between regions was cut off.
Meanwhile in Banda Aceh, the price of red chilies jumped five-fold to IDR 250 thousand-IDR 300 thousand per kg.The price of chicken eggs has risen to Rp. 70 thousand per board and a number of commodities such as onions and subsidized gas are starting to become scarce.
Traders at Al Mahirah Market said supplies from North Sumatra had stopped completely for the last three days because roads in Bireuen and Aceh Tamiang had been cut off by floods.
“This is the last supply. There have been no goods entering Banda Aceh for three days because the road is cut off,” said Rahmat, one of the traders.
