ensure the development of chicken farming in the Free Nutritious Meal program (
MBG
) will not interfere with existing (existing) breeder businesses.
The government, through the Danantara Investment Management Agency (BPI), is preparing an investment of IDR 20 trillion to build broiler and egg-laying chicken farms in various regions. This is part of efforts to strengthen food supplies for the MBG program.
This financing model, continued Amran, is designed to support small farmers through the supply of feed, veterinary medicine and DOC at prices controlled by the government.

“Our plan, the model, is IDR 20 trillion for feed breeding. This is for the state. Then, in the future, operating breeders will supply these breeders with feed and medicine at government prices. So this will support our fellow breeders instead of screaming every year,” said Amran at a Working Meeting with Commission IV DPR RI, Central Jakarta, Monday (24/11).
He explained that food state-owned enterprises would not be involved in cultivation, but only in breeding, feed, veterinary medicine, product processing and logistics.Cultivation is still carried out by breeders, cooperatives and MSMEs through bank financing, including KUR with 3 percent interest.
This concept was prepared to ensure price stability while keeping existing breeder business areas running.
Amran said that this model was born because of conditions that were detrimental to small farmers, such as the increase in the price of chicken seeds (
day old chick
/DOC) up to 30 percent when demand is high. This condition prompted the government to summon large companies to stop price increases.
The placement of feed and warehouse facilities, especially on the island of Java, is also intended so that the government can absorb greater production and keep prices stable in the field.
“We are limited here, the point is, don’t disturb entrepreneurs who are already growing. But don’t be arbitrary. So we installed it next to it to stabilize prices in that place,” said Amran.
He emphasized that the government’s goal is to ensure that small farmers can easily obtain DOC and feed at affordable prices. The government targets construction of feed factories and DOC facilities to start next year.
In the Ministry of Agriculture’s explanation, Danantara will finance state-owned food companies for breeding, feed, veterinary medicine, product processing and marketing logistics.KUR channeling banks provide credit of up to IDR 50 trillion for cooperatives, MSMEs and livestock farmers as cultivation actors.
This model is supported by regulations, human resource development, infrastructure, as well as research and innovation from the Ministry of Agriculture through the APBN.The program is targeted to produce 1 million tons of eggs and 1.5 million tons of chicken meat per year and create more than 1.46 million jobs.
The initial stage of developing egg and broiler chicken clusters will be built in Aceh, Riau, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Gorontalo, South Sulawesi, West Nusa Tenggara, East Nusa Tenggara, South Papua and East Java.
These areas were selected based on the need for chicken and egg supplies in each region and will involve PTPN III (Holding) and PT Berdikari in upstream activities, while farmers remain the main actors in cultivation.
