Minister of Agriculture
Andi Amran Sulaiman
reveal the culprit behind the rise
chili price
red in a number of areas.
He said that the price spike, which has now reached an average of IDR 50 thousand per kilogram (kg), was influenced by distribution disruptions and weather conditions which were still pouring with rain in various areas.
Nevertheless, Amran is confident that the presence of the Red and White Kopdes can reduce chili prices in the future.

“The solution for the future is if the Red and White Cooperative (Kopdes) is already running, it will have it
cold storage.
So if the peak harvest goes into storage, then if…
off season
we’re back,” said Amran at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (11/11).
The boss of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) added that the current price increase is also due to the unstable supply of chilies because the main harvest period has not yet entered.
“This may be because of the current distribution conditions, because it is raining,” he said.
Based on data from the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) until the first week of November 2025, the price of red chilies varies between regions.
The highest price was recorded in Nduga Regency which reached IDR 200 thousand per kg, followed by Mappi Regency IDR 162,500, and Bintang Mountains Regency IDR 120 thousand.
Meanwhile, the lowest price was recorded at around IDR 20 thousand per kg in a number of production center areas.
Several other areas also recorded significant increases in chili prices. In Tambrauw Regency, the price of red chilies reached IDR 96 thousand per kg or 74.55 percent above the government reference price (HAP).
In Merauke City and South Halmahera Regency, prices reached IDR 94,667 and IDR 96 thousand per kg, respectively.Meanwhile, in western regions such as Kubu Raya Regency and Pontianak City, prices are actually lower, at around IDR 25 thousand-IDR 31 thousand per kg.
The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that this price increase phenomenon was triggered by a lack of supply from producing areas, a decrease in production due to extreme weather, and an increase in prices at the distributor level.
Several production centers such as Mukomuko Regency were also reported to have experienced harvest failures, which further pressured supply on the market.
Amran said Bapanas and the Ministry of Agriculture are trying to stabilize prices by strengthening storage facilities through Kopdes Merah Putih which has cold storage. He hopes that this step can maintain stocks when the harvest is abundant and maintain availability when supplies decrease.
Nationally, based on data from the Ministry of Trade’s Price Change Index (IPH), red chili prices experienced a decline in around 56.9 percent of Indonesia’s territory until early November.
However, a number of regions in Eastern Indonesia still recorded sharp price increases due to distribution obstacles and unfavorable weather conditions.
