Most recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that if European NATO member countries were determined to start a war with Russia, then Moscow would win the war. This means that the war will continue and may result in more casualties.
Even though this war is said to be the most terrible since World War II.
Recently, negotiations between Putin and United States President Donald Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff, on Tuesday (2/12) to discuss the possibility of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine also ended in deadlock.

NATO involvement
Experts from the International Crisis Group think tank assess that the Russia-Ukraine war lasted a long time because of various assistance provided by Western countries to Ukraine.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) continues to send sophisticated weapons to Kyiv to help the former Soviet Union survive and resist Russian invasion.
In fact, it is also claimed that a number of NATO countries continue to train Ukrainian troops and fund the Ukrainian government. Moreover, now NATO has a new member, namely Finland, which means that more countries are helping Kyiv’s military weapons.
“The European Union is not only coordinating military aid to Ukraine but also venturing into more cooperative arms procurement, with the dual aim of better assisting Kyiv and ensuring its own capacity to deter Moscow,” Crisis Group wrote.
Even though Ukraine continues to get help from its allies, Russia doesn’t seem to care and continues to defend itself with various weapons of its own and those allegedly supported by North Korea.
President Putin has long believed that the West’s support for Ukraine will wane over time. The Kremlin believes that if they hold out, Western countries will eventually slow or end aid to Kyiv and force Ukraine to make peace.
“Even if it means Kyiv gives up sovereignty and swaths of its territory,” wrote Crisis Group.
Profiting from war
Inevitably, the Russian-Ukrainian war has provided benefits to a number of countries, especially weapons manufacturers.
A number of weapons manufacturing companies this year made huge profits due to the Russia-Ukraine war and Israel’s invasion of Gaza.Based on the AFP report, the top 100 weapons manufacturers in the world earned revenues of up to US$679 billion or the equivalent (Rp. 11,304 trillion) this year.
A number of researchers noted that the war in Ukraine and the Gaza Strip increased the demand for weapons like crazy last year. However, production constraints also hampered delivery.
The 2024 income figure was recorded 5.9 percent higher than previous years. In the period 2015-2024, the income of the top 100 weapons manufacturers increased by 26 percent, according to records from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
“Last year, global arms revenues reached the highest level ever recorded by SIPRI as manufacturers took advantage of high demand,” Lorenzo Scarazzato, researcher at SIPRI’s Military Expenditure and Arms Production Program, said in a statement.
