In these negotiations, Indonesia wants commodities not produced by the US to receive a 0 percent tariff.Some of these commodities include crude palm oil (CPO), rubber, tea, coffee and other rubber products.
The tariffs for textiles and footwear are still in the discussion stage.
Airlangga also claimed that there were no objections from other countries regarding the special tariff agreement, including from the UK.
“There are no protests, I have spoken (with England). But of course if we provide facilities to one country, other countries also want it, that’s normal,” he said.
According to Airlangga, the dynamics of Indonesia’s trade relations with other countries are considered to be able to be managed fairly without causing tension.
This is because Indonesia still has a number of trade cooperation umbrellas with other partners, such as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with the European Union, Canada and China.
The White House had previously agreed to reduce tariffs on a number of imported products from Indonesia from 32 percent to 19 percent.
As part of the negotiations, Indonesia is committed to increasing imports from the US and increasing investment in Uncle Sam’s country.This is to balance the trade balance between the two countries.
In this case, Indonesia is committed to importing energy from the US of up to US$15 billion and agricultural products US$4.5 billion.
