), North Sumatra.This action was recorded on video and went viral on social media.
The looting is said to have occurred because residents had difficulty getting basic necessities after the floods and landslides that hit since the beginning of the week.
In the footage circulating, dozens of residents can be seen entering the minimarket whose door was already partially open.They take daily necessities such as instant food, drinking water and other basic supplies.After that, residents were seen leaving the location carrying their belongings.

“After the floods and landslides that hit the Sibolga – Tapteng area since Monday (24/11) evening, the condition of residents at a number of points including Hutabalang, Pandan and Pinangsori is still reported to be difficult. Road access is cut off, meaning logistics distribution cannot enter normally. Several minimarkets in Pandan are starting to be looted because it is difficult to obtain basic necessities,” wrote the video narration.
The Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Regional Police, Police Commissioner Ferry Walintukan, confirmed that the looting had indeed occurred.He confirmed that the Central Tapanuli Police had handled the case.
“The case has been handled by the Central Tapanuli Police,” he said, Saturday (29/11) evening.
Ferry appealed to the public to remain calm and not take steps that would harm themselves or other parties.He emphasized that assistance from the North Sumatra Regional Police, BNPB and North Sumatra Provincial Government is in the process of being distributed to affected residents.
“Currently officers are distributing aid to the affected communities. We hope the community can be patient,” he concluded.
Previously, the Governor of North Sumatra, Bobby Nasution, ensured that the disaster management process in the Tapanuli area was running intensively, especially to reach communities who are still isolated due to landslides which cut off land access.
“Apart from carrying out air monitoring in the Tapanuli area and its surroundings, we also continue to distribute logistics to people in isolated areas whose access is blocked by landslides,” said Bobby, who immediately brought aid to the Tapanuli area.
Bobby emphasized that the government will continue to strive to meet the basic needs of affected residents.He also ensured that coordination with various related institutions and agencies was active to speed up the evacuation process and disaster management.
“We are coordinating with all parties to ensure evacuation and disaster management runs smoothly. We will continue to provide updates on field conditions,” he added.
