Massive power outage hits San Francisco, California,

reported based on statements by local authorities that around 130 thousand residents were without electricity.Residents of the city known for things like the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz prison are now being asked to stay at home.

Apart from being a tourist attraction, San Francisco is also seen as the investment capital of the world including artificial intelligence (AI), a sector that is soaring.Many AI startups are concentrated in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Most of the tech hubs are on the West Coast, which has a population of more than 800,000 people.The public transport system was disrupted and many traffic lights were not working on the busy Christmas shopping weekend.
“We are working closely with emergency responders and city officials regarding the power outages in San Francisco affecting approximately 130,000 customers,” Pacific Gas & Electric Company, the city’s main electricity provider, said in a statement on X.
The city’s mayor asked residents to stay off the roads as much as possible, adding that some traffic lights were out and authorities had sent police and traffic officers to regulate intersections.
“But it’s going to rain, it’s getting late. If you don’t need to go out, stay home and I’ll keep you updated,” Mayor Daniel Lurie said at the city’s emergency operations center in a video posted on X.
The fire broke out at a substation, Lurie added, saying it was unclear when power would be fully restored.
