, failed to become a candidate for nomination for the event

.The title did not appear on the short list for the 98th Academy Awards on Wednesday (17/12) WIB.
The Academy said that this year they received applications from 86 countries that met the requirements to be selected in this category.This figure is one more country than last year’s participants.

Of the 86 films, the International Feature Film Committee then selected them to produce a short list of 15 films which would then be selected by Academy members from all branches to become nominees.
The short list of 15 countries is dominated by European countries, such as France, Germany, Norway, Spain and Switzerland.
There is also Asia, such as India, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.As well as the Middle East, such as Iraq, Palestine and Jordan.
Meanwhile, Sore: Wife from the Future, which was chosen as Indonesia’s representative to the 2026 Oscars, did not appear on the list at all.

Indonesia began participating in the Oscars for the Best International Feature Film (formerly Foreign Language Film) category since 1987.
The award is given annually to feature films produced outside America and containing mostly non-English dialogue.
Afternoon: Wife from the Future is the 27th film sent by Indonesia to compete in this category.Even though it has been done 27 times, Indonesia has never made it to the list of nominees for the category formerly known as Best Foreign Language Film.
This failure extends to Indonesia, which has never been on the short list at all since it first participated in sending candidates in 1987, or has submitted 26 local films to the Academy Awards.
In 2020, Indonesia appointed Perempuan Tanah Jahanam by Joko Anwar, in 2021 it sent Yuni by Kamila Andini, in 2022 it sent Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap by Bene Dion.
In 2023 Indonesia submitted Autobiography by Makbul Mubarak and in 2024 submitted Women from Rote Island by Jeremias Nyangoen for the 2025 Oscars.
Sore: Wife from the Future tells the story of Sore (Sheila Dara Aisha) coming from the future to meet her husband, Jonathan (Dion Wiyoko).At that time, Jonathan, who was still single, lived and worked in Croatia.
Afternoon comes bringing an important mission to change Jonathan’s destiny.She wanted her husband to live a long life because Jonathan’s health worsened during their marriage.
Problems become complicated because Jonathan’s past, present and future with Sore collide.They don’t realize that there are big consequences that must be faced from every action.
