ADB Appoints Bobur Alimov as New Director in RI

) officially appointed
Bobur Alimov
as the new director for Indonesia replacing Jiro Tominaga.
He took office this November and will lead all ADB operations in Indonesia.
This appointment also opens a new phase in ADB’s partnership with the government, development partners and the private sector in the country.

In his new role, Alimov will oversee the implementation of the ADB’s newly approved Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) 2025-2029.
This strategy is claimed to support Indonesia’s efforts to achieve faster, inclusive and sustainable growth through integrated development solutions and programs aimed at strengthening ADB’s impact throughout Indonesia.
“It is an honor for me to return to Indonesia and work side by side with the dynamic ADB team here,” said Alimov in an official statement, Friday (28/11).
“Indonesia is an important driver of growth and innovation in the region, and I look forward to deepening our strong partnership to support Indonesia’s development goals and drive inclusive and sustainable economic progress for all its people,” he added.
Alimov has a long track record at ADB since joining in 2002 as a young economist in the division previously known as the Agriculture and Environment Division in the Southeast Asia Department.
He has served in two
resident mission,
namely as an environmental economist in Indonesia and as Head of the Project Administration Unit in the Kyrgyz Republic.
In addition, he also held various strategic positions at ADB headquarters for the Central and West Asia Department, as well as the Southeast Asia Department.
In 2018, Alimov was appointed as advisor and Head of the Special Initiatives Unit in the Department of Strategy, Policy and Partnerships, leading the core team implementing ADB’s Organizational Review.
Four years later, in 2023, he was appointed Head of the Transformation Office which manages the design and launch of ADB’s transformation agenda.
Most recently, he served as an advisor to the East Asia Department and played a role in the department’s strategic planning and program implementation.
A native of Uzbekistan, Alimov has more than 28 years of professional experience, including 23 years with ADB.
He earned a doctorate and master’s degree in economics from the University of Connecticut, United States.Prior to his career at ADB, he was a lecturer in International Trade and Economic Mathematics at the same university.
