Achraf Hakimi
became the 2025 African Player of the Year in an announcement held in Rabat, Morocco, Thursday (20/11) early morning WIB.
In announcing the award, Hakimi beat Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah and Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen.
Hakimi became the 2025 African Player of the Year after winning many titles with PSG.In the 2024/2025 season, Hakimi helped PSG win the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, win the French League, French Cup and reach the Club World Cup final before losing to Chelsea.

Not only did he help the club, Hakimi also helped the Moroccan national team qualify for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico next year.
Hakimi received the 2025 African Player of the Year trophy from FIFA President Gianni Infantino with a knee scooter.Hakimi used a scooter to the stage because he injured his ankle after being tackled by Luis Diaz in the Champions League.
This achievement made Achraf Hakimi the first defender to become the Best African Player after former TP Mazembe central defender Bwanga Tshimen in 1973 and the first Moroccan player to win this trophy, Mustapha Hadji in 1998.

Hakimi is the fifth Moroccan player to receive this prestigious individual award after Ahmed Faras (1975), Mohamed Timoumi (1985), Ezzaki Badou (1986), and Mustapha Hadji.
With Hakimi being the 2025 African Player of the Year, PSG players have only received this award twice.Previously George Weah won this trophy in 1994.
Meanwhile, Al Hilal women’s player, Ghizlane Chebbak, became the 2025 African Women’s Player of the Year after winning the title of top scorer in the Women’s African Cup and helping Morocco become runners up.
