According to the Unscripted podcast, Boateng made a surprising confession that he had lied about Messi at Barcelona.

“I remember when I arrived at Barcelona, they immediately asked me who was the best player in the world. I had to say it was Lionel Messi, I lied,” said Boateng.
“That was one of the biggest lies in my life. Usually I always tell the truth, but I lied because that was the only way to wear the Barcelona uniform,” Boateng added.
Boateng is a big Real Madrid fan.Therefore, when Cristiano Ronaldo became a star at Santiago Bernabeu, he recognized CR7 as the best player in the world.However, when he joined Barcelona, Boateng was forced to admit that the best player in the world was Lionel Messi.
“I always supported Real Madrid when I was a teenager. I liked Cristiano Ronaldo. But they said I had to say that, otherwise I wouldn’t play,” said Boateng.
During his six-month loan spell from Sassuolo, Boateng only played four times at Barcelona without ever scoring a goal.Boateng said he really wanted to be able to wear the Barcelona uniform in his career.
