Aftershocks with a magnitude of 4.8 rocked the Aceh region, Thursday (27/11) afternoon.
This aftershock occurred after the main earthquake measuring 6.3 in Aceh at around 11:56 WIB.

“Until 13.00 WIB, BMKG monitoring results showed the activity of 6 aftershocks with the largest magnitude M 4.8,” said BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Director, Daryono in his statement.
Daryono explained that based on the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake was a shallow type of earthquake.
The earthquake occurred due to subduction activity of the Indo-Australian Plate sinking beneath the Eurasian Plate.The results of the source mechanism analysis show that the earthquake has an upward movement mechanism (thrust fault).
The earthquake was felt in Simeulue with an intensity scale of IV MMI, South Aceh with an intensity scale of III-IV MMI.Then in Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, Southeast Aceh, Abdya, Singkil with an intensity scale of III MMI, Kabanjahe, Berastagi, Tiganderket, Pidie, Lhokseumawe with an intensity scale of II-III MMI and in Medan, Silangit with an intensity scale of II MMI.
“Until now there have been reports of light damage caused by this earthquake. Modeling results show that this earthquake does not have the potential for a tsunami,” said Daryono.
