Donald Trump
seemed full of jokes and banter when entertaining the Mayor of New York
Zohran Mamdani
at the White House for the first time on Friday (23/11).
In fact, so far Trump has been the most vocal in his opposition to Mamdani’s victory in the New York mayoral election in early November.Trump even branded the first Muslim to become mayor as a communist.

In a video, Trump is sitting at his desk in the Oval Office face to face with a number of White House journalists.Mamdani was seen standing next to Trump.
When the two were talking to journalists, one of the journalists asked Mamdani: “Do you still think that President Trump is a fascist?”
Mamdani, who was about to answer the journalist’s question right next to Trump, stopped when the US president interrupted him.
“I’ve been talking about–” Mamdani was interrupted.
“It’s okay, you can just say ‘yes’, okay? That’s easier,” Trump said with a laugh as quoted by

.
“It’s easier (saying yes) than explaining it. I don’t mind,” Trump added, patting Mamdani next to him on the shoulder.

The moment occurred when Trump tried to show a friendlier tone towards Mamdani than during the campaign.The atmosphere in the Oval Office is also friendly, warm and respectful.
Both of them also praised each other.

He later said, “I met a guy who really wants to see New York great again.”
Trump even emphasized that he was ready to help Mamdani after he boasted that he would cut the regional budget for New York City because he did not accept that the Democrat politician won.
“I hope to help him, not hurt him, a big help, because I want New York City to be great,” Trump was quoted as saying

Before the meeting, Trump and Mamdani showed signs of hostility. In his victory speech, Mamdani even beat the drums of war against Trump.
Trump also once called Mamdani a crazy communist.In some policies, the two are also at odds.
Apart from that, Trump once boasted that he would cut federal funding for New York if Mamdani became mayor.
“As president, I don’t want to send good money to cover bad things. I firmly believe that New York City will be a total economic and social disaster if Mamdani wins,” Trump said in early November.
