John Micklethwait equates the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (

At the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, Micklethwait called Jokowi a street politician.

He also said that the former Indonesian president greeted everyone and often visited public places.
“As a street politician, I would rank him with the best, with people like Bill Clinton and Jacques Chirac,” said Micklethwait, Friday (21/11).
He then said, “You can go around the market with him, you can go around the sales center with him, you can go around the factory.”
While leading the US, Clinton was known for his ability to handle the economy.He brought in the first APBN surplus after the United States federal government had always had a deficit since 1969.
In the Clinton era, the United States recorded the largest surplus in its history at US$237 billion.
Micklethwait then introduced Jokowi as a former timber entrepreneur.He then mentioned Jokowi’s track record since becoming Mayor of Solo.
He discussed Jokowi’s vision of developing Indonesia with an Indonesia-centric spirit.Jokowi’s work in maintaining good relations with all countries was also highlighted at the forum.
“He is known for a very inclusive political style,” Micklethwait said.
Jokowi attended the Bloomberg New Economy Forum 2025 as a speaker.He also has the status of a Member of the Bloomberg New Economy Advisory Board.
