A husband and wife (couple) reportedly suffered burns due to hot clouds from the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang Regency, East Java on Wednesday (19/11).
Head of the Lumajang BPBD, Isnugroho, said the two victims were male Haryono (48) and female Normawati (42), both of whom came from Kediri.
“Two people were burnt, residents of Kediri but living in Tempeh [Tempeh District, Lumajang Regency], have not reported moving,” said Isnugroho, Wednesday (19/11).

Isnugroho said that the two victims were hit by Falling Hot Clouds (APG) while passing through the Gladak Perak area, Sumbermujur.
“He forced him to pass through Gladak Perak when APG arrived, suffering from burns to 20 percent of his hands and part of his face and was being treated by medical staff at Pasirian Regional Hospital,” he said.
Isnugroho said that both of them are still being treated at the Pasirian Lumajang Regional Hospital for further treatment.”What is certain is that there has been medical treatment,” he said.
Mount Semeru experienced an eruption and clouds sliding as far as 14 kilometers, Wednesday (19/11), causing local residents to flee.
Climbing Mount Semeru to Ranu Kumbolo on the border of Lumajang and Malang Regencies, East Java, was also declared completely closed following the eruption.
Now Mount Semeru has alert status.However, Satriyo said the hot cloud glide was still ongoing, with a maximum amplitude of 40 mm and a sliding distance of more than 14 kilometers.
Meanwhile, visually the weather conditions around Semeru were observed to be cloudy and dark.Currently, access to the Gladak Perak Bridge is closed.
Meanwhile, Juanda International Airport, Sidoarjo, East Java (Jatim) admitted to anticipating flight disruptions due to hot cloud avalanches (APG) or the eruption of Mount Semeru in Lumajang, East Java.
General Manager of Juanda International Airport, Muhammad Tohir, said that his party was coordinating with BMKG to anticipate.
“We are coordinating intensely with BMKG, Airnav and airlines, to continue to anticipate if the direction of the dust moves towards the airport,” said Tohir, Wednesday (19/11) evening.
