Chairman of the Association
Nutritionist
Indonesia (
Persagi
) Doddy Izwardy responds to the National Nutrition Agency’s plan (
BGN
) expand the recruitment of nutrition supervisors in the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) aka Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) public kitchens to non-nutrition graduates.
According to Doddy, this policy emerged before formal collaboration between BGN and Persagi and therefore risks affecting the quality of nutrition services at SPPG.
“Oh, that’s because there is no MoU (memorandum of understanding) with us yet. Yes, that means we conveyed the meaning to BGN for us to
support
, looking for a nutritionist, helping them to fulfill (nutrition),” said Doddy at the Coordinating Ministry for Food, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (19/11).

He emphasized that preparing a nutritional menu is not just about preparing food, but is about calculating the nutritional composition, determining substitute ingredients, and meeting the nutritional needs of beneficiaries.
Doddy assesses that policy changes that shorten education and training for non-nutrition workers require a revision of presidential regulations (perpres), and if not appropriate could have serious impacts.
“That guarantees that in the end the beneficiaries will be obese. Right?”he said.
He emphasized that nutritionists at SPPG must have the courage to uphold nutritional standards and professionalism in every menu preparation.
He gave an example of the importance of technical skills that only formally educated nutritionists have.
“You have to be an expert. Go to school first. Me
just do it
go to school first,” said Doddy.
According to him, short training such as three months will not be enough to prepare personnel who understand health risks, especially for vulnerable groups, such as children and pregnant women.
Professional expertise is needed to ensure food composition meets nutritional adequacy rates, avoids the risk of non-communicable diseases, and maintains the overall quality of MBG services.
The discourse on recruiting non-nutrition workers emerged after the Head of BGN Dadan Hindayana stated that the number of nutrition graduates was not sufficient for the MBG program.Dadan said the initial priority remains a nutrition graduate, but to fill the gap, BGN is considering graduates in public health, food technology and other fields who have basic knowledge of nutrition.
This statement sparked public debate because it was considered to reduce the competency standards of experts in the MBG kitchen.
