PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) Business Development Director Arif Haendra revealed SGAR Phase 2 is an expansion aimed at increasing domestic alumina production.
“Yes, the plan is that Danantara will play a role. Now, later on the amount (investment value) and how, we will discuss it later,” he said after attending a discussion with the Industry Journalists Forum (Forwin) at the Alana Sentul Hotel, Friday (14/11).

According to Arif, the investment requirement for SGAR Phase 2 is quite large, namely around US$ 800 million. The reason is, there is still some infrastructure that needs to be built.
“Approximately US$700 million-US$800 million (investment needs), because there is infrastructure that we have to complete. Because it is remote there, far from the port. We have to build logistics facilities,” he explained.
There are two options for Inalum to fulfill SGAR Phase 2 financing. Apart from Danantara, it is possible that the company will apply for a loan.
“We will try to ensure that Danantara (investment) is sufficient, if it is not enough, there will definitely be a loan. So that our leverage will increase because we will also build a smelter,” he explained.
SGAR Phase 2 will have a production capacity of 1 million tons per year, the same as SGAR Phase 1, with an operational target in 2028.
With the construction of phase 2, Inalum’s total alumina production will reach 2 million tons per year.
It is hoped that this abundant production can meet national aluminum needs, thereby reducing dependence on imports.
