Ani said eradicating TB starts with finding cases so they can be treated.
“So we continue to look for assignments until at least all 70 thousand have been found, and of the 49 thousand who have been found, more than 90 percent of them have started treatment,” he said.
Deputy Health Minister Benjamin Paulus said there are around 1 million TB cases in Indonesia currently.
The Ministry of Health is targeting 900 thousand cases to receive treatment this year
“To date, we have treated 700 thousand. We hope that by the end of the year it will reach 900 thousand. So, our goal now is that next year, if there is a target for TB, how many of them must be treated,” he said.
Benjamin emphasized the importance of finding TB cases so they can be treated. He said the number of TB deaths was greater than Covid-19.
“If it is found, it will be treated completely. If it is not found, many people will suddenly die everywhere. Imagine that there are more than 125 thousand people who have died. More people have died from TB than Covid, but we don’t think so,” he said.
