“I am honored to be given this opportunity. Being part of this team is a privilege in itself. I want to do my best for this team,” said Luke.
The player who was born and spent his childhood in Indonesia has a strong ambition to defend the Red and White team.
“Whatever it is, I want to help the team. I believe in the coaching staff and the players. They have great potential. Indonesian people have the right to see [the Indonesian National Team] win. If I can help, I want to help,” said Luke.
“Indonesia is number one, there are no others.”
The progress of the Indonesian National Team in the 2026 World Cup Qualifications is also the reason why Luke prefers to defend his mother’s country.
“To be honest, I haven’t been here for a long time. The people here are so warm and the national team’s struggle in the World Cup Qualifiers inspired me. Things like that make me connected to this country,” he said.
Apart from Luke, there are two other players who did not actually receive Indra Sjafri’s call, but also underwent TC, namely Muhammad Mishbah and Reycredo Beremanda. Both are players from the Agulias UMak club which competes in the Philippines.
Luke, who once studied in Indonesia, no longer fluently practices his mother tongue.Hanging out with Brandon Scheunemann and several naturalized players is an alternative for Luke to learn Indonesian.
“Brandon [Scheunemann] helped me a lot. Then there were some naturalized players who helped me with some things at dinner,” said Luke.
