1. 12 regions enter the recovery phase
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno said that as many as 12 districts/cities in the flood-affected areas of Sumatra had entered the transition phase from emergency response status to the recovery phase.

2. 11 districts in Aceh are still responding to emergencies
However, Pratikno explained that 11 districts in Aceh Province were still in emergency response status.
“We apologize, however, in Aceh Province there are still 11 districts that will extend their emergency response status,” he said.
Pratikno said the extension of the emergency response status was carried out so that emergency management efforts could run optimally and the region was truly ready to enter the recovery phase.
3. North Sumatra extends the disaster emergency
Governor of North Sumatra
Bobby Nasution
has again extended the disaster emergency response status in this region until 25-31 December 2025.
The extension of the disaster emergency response status is stated in the Decree of the Governor of North Sumatra Number 188.44/906/KPTS/2025 which was signed on Wednesday 24 December 2025.
He also assigned the team to continue disaster management efforts.
4. Schools will open in early January
The government stated that the operational readiness of schools in flood-affected areas in Sumatra continues to increase.The plan is for schools to reopen in early January 2026.
In a press conference,

said preparations were being made through cleaning, repairing and restoring educational facilities in line with handling the impact of the disaster in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
“In Aceh, around 65 percent of schools have been prepared to operate again. This is done through cleaning, revitalizing facilities and so on to welcome the new school year on January 5 2026,” he said.
Meanwhile, for West Sumatra and North Sumatra, the level of school operational readiness is approaching 90 percent.
“So the government continues to be committed through various efforts so that the formal teaching and learning process can resume in early January 2026,” added Pratikno.
5. 90 percent of roads in Sumatra are functional
Most transportation access in areas affected by floods and landslides in Sumatra is starting to recover.
Pratikno said that of the 81 national roads affected in three provinces, 72 sections or almost 90 percent had returned to function.Then, the rest are still in the accelerated handling stage.
