asked the United Nations for help
UN
) to denounce
United States
(US), in the aftermath of its military actions in the Caribbean.
In a letter read by Foreign Minister Yvan Gil on Monday (22/12), Maduro said that US military action in the Caribbean region must be stopped because it violates human rights.
Maduro called the US-run Operation Southern Spear “unprecedented intimidation”.The operation, which deployed naval and air forces, was said to involve a nuclear submarine deployed off the coast of Venezuela.

Maduro has mainly complained about US operations which he says have targeted civilian ships.
The Venezuelan government insists that these US actions represent a systematic violation of international law.Maduro accused the US of not complying with the UN Charter, the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
“Venezuela has taken no action that would justify this kind of military intimidation,” Maduro said in his letter.
Maduro’s letter was sent to the UN at a time when pressure from US President Donald Trump was increasingly suffocating.
Trump recently launched attacks on ships in the Caribbean under the pretext of operations to eradicate drugs. These attacks have killed dozens of people, which Maduro strongly condemned.
Trump also recently stepped up the pressure by ordering a total blockade of oil ships going in and out of Venezuela. He also deployed Air Force troops to Ecuador, a region very close to Venezuela.
“Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest fleet ever assembled in the history of South America. This fleet will continue to grow and the shock Venezuela will experience will be devastating, until they return all the oil, land and other assets they stole from us,” Trump wrote in Truth Social.
