The gold reserves were discovered off the coast of Laizhou, Yantai City in Shandong Province.According to the South China Morning Post, this new discovery increases the total proven gold reserves in Laizhou to more than 3,900 tons or the equivalent of around 137 million ounces of gold.
This figure accounts for around 26 percent of China’s total national gold reserves, making Laizhou the region with the largest gold reserves and production in the entire country.So, which countries own the largest gold mines in the world?
1. China
This bamboo curtain country has the largest gold mines in the world, with total production reaching 380 metric tons every year.
One of them is the Shaxi mine, an underground mine located in Anhui.This mine is owned by the Tongling Nonferrous Metals Group and will produce around 649.18 thousand ounces of gold in 2023, citing the mining-technology.com page.
There are more than 1352 gold mines operating worldwide, 117 of which are in China.
2. Russia
