Attack
Molotov cocktails
and smoke bombs and stabbings occurred at two Taipei subway stations,
Taiwan
, on Friday (19/12) evening.
The incident which occurred at Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan Station killed four people, including the perpetrator, and injured five other people.
Taiwanese Prime Minister Cho Jung-tai called the attack a planned act.

The perpetrator reportedly wore a mask and threw five to six Molotov cocktails or smoke grenades in the Taipei Main Station area, before carrying out the stabbing.
The Taipei City Fire Department confirmed that the total death toll was four people.
Meanwhile, a number of other victims suffered stab wounds and trauma due to blunt objects, three of whom even experienced cardiac arrest.
Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an said the perpetrator allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a building to avoid arrest.
One of the victims who died is known to be a resident who tried to stop the perpetrator’s actions at the Main Station.
“Unfortunately, he (the resident who tried to stop the perpetrator) was attacked and died… we are all very sad,” Mayor Chiang Wan-an told reporters.
“For now, we understand that the perpetrator committed suicide by jumping from the building to avoid arrest and has been confirmed dead,” he added.
Following up on this incident, the Taiwanese government increased security at various strategic locations, including train stations, highways, subway stations and airports throughout the island.
Taiwan President Lai Ching-te emphasized that the authorities would immediately fully investigate this case and ensure that public security was maintained.
Although relatively rare, this attack reminded the public of the stabbing incident in the Taipei metro in 2014 which killed four people and shook the sense of security of Taiwanese people.
