The intelligence chief, who will end his term in June 2026, praised Israel’s surprising opening attack in the war.
According to him, the attack revealed a lot of intelligence gathered by Israeli spies about Iran.
“The regime of the ayatollahs woke up, in an instant, and realized Iran was completely exposed and penetrated,” Barnea said.
“Iran believes they are deceiving the world once again and implementing another bad nuclear deal. We will not let a bad deal go through,” added Barnea, who expressed doubts about any diplomatic solution with Tehran.
Western countries have long accused Iran of seeking nuclear weapons and trying to prevent it, while Tehran has always denied the accusations.
In his first term in office, United States President Donald Trump withdrew from a landmark deal that limited Iran’s proliferation of nuclear materials in exchange for lifting sanctions.
Israel opposes the deal signed in 2015.
Iran and the US began negotiations for a new agreement in April, mediated by Oman, but the talks broke down abruptly.
This happened because of Israel’s surprise attack on Iran on June 13, which sparked a 12-day conflict.
The US then participated by carrying out attacks on three Iranian nuclear facilities.
Trump reiterated his country’s strikes destroyed Iran’s nuclear program, but the scale of the damage remains unknown.
The Pentagon said the attack delayed Iran’s nuclear program by between one and two years, contrary to classified US intelligence reports.
According to American media, they discovered the delay was only a few months.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has previously rejected Trump’s claim Iran’s nuclear program was destroyed, and told him to “keep dreaming.”
