The world ranking is certain to drop sharply after being punished

In an announcement issued by FAM on Wednesday (17/12), the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) was declared to have violated article 19 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (2025 edition), with a penalty of losing 0-3 in three tier 1 matches.
The three matches in question are: against Cape Verde with a 1-1 result on May 29, Singapore with a 2-1 result on September 4, and against Palestine with a 1-0 result on September 8.

By losing 0-3 in those three matches, Malaysia has the potential to drop in the FIFA rankings.The reason is, the two wins and one draw have helped raise Harimau Malaya’s position in the current FIFA rankings.
Currently, Malaysia is ranked 116th in the FIFA rankings after collecting 1168.41 points.Malaysia has continued to experience an increase in its ranking in the FIFA rankings since October 2024. The significant increase for the team coached by Peter Cklamovski occurred in the period April to July 2025.
If FIFA updates the world rankings in its latest release, Malaysia could drop in ranking.Currently Gambia, Sudan and even Namibia are lurking.

Malaysia is only 6.86 points ahead of Gambia.Then they were 14.85 points ahead of Sudan, then 15.19 points ahead of Namibia.
Apart from losing in international matches, FIFA also gave FAM additional punishment in the form of a fine of 10,000 Swiss francs or the equivalent of IDR 209 million.
Previously last September FIFA imposed a fine to FAM of 350,000 Swiss francs.A fine of 2,000 Swiss francs was also given to seven naturalized Malaysian players involved in fake documents.Apart from the fine, the seven players were also banned from playing for 12 months.
